Feedback on music video from YouTube
Here are the YouTube comments I received for the music video. My friends wanted to be put on anonymously which was why I blanked out their names. Again, the feedback was generally really good. Everyone liked the elements of the heartbreak theme we tried to illustrate. They understood the storyline and also enjoyed watching the video as a whole. In addition, the flashback scenes were a success as people understood that these were just his memories. Also, the fact that they liked my camera work was really pleasing. Overall, I'm really happy with the outcome of the video and the feedback. It was worth the effort both Nana and I put in.

More detail on editing the video
In the first image Nana and I were ordering each scene and trying to find the best arrangement for them. We kept in mind about when specifically we should put the lip syncing scenes and the bathroom scenes, because they had to go with the beat and the words of the track which was very important. This was also something we had to do with every other scene. We had to make sure the transition between the scenes fit the beat and went smoothly, which I think we did successfully.
Here we had to experiment with the 'bad television' effect and applied it on all the scenes that represented the flashbacks. Personally, this effect was very important in our video because many of the audience understood it better that these scenes were his memories. I think they set the mood of the video as a whole really well because of the fact that the scenes were in colour, and because of the effect we put on them.
In this image, we were looking at a variety of effects we could have used on this video and just experimenting with everything we had. This was when we found out about the 'bad television' effect and started using it on the flashback scenes, which worked effectively.
I started looking at the colour corrections, making sure the hue, saturation and contrast was used/ experimented on appropriately for each scene because we needed the flashbacks to first look vibrant and colourful, and then it gradually got dimmer and less vibrant as he got close the committing suicide. Also, to make the black and white scenes more visually pleasing, I had to play around with all three elements because some scenes got grainy and blurry.
This image just illustrates the soundtrack and the clips put altogether, so when you play the whole thing, the track and the lip syncing scenes both worked together, which looked very professional and well made. I liked the fact that the track was slow paste as well because it allowed the artist to make his audience relate to him and his situation more.
Again, we were just checking out the soundtrack and when we'd start to put the scenes together. We also made sure that the 'bad television' effect wasn't overused because then it wouldn't have looked as professional.

7. Editing - Day 5
We have started to put in the black and white effect in the present scenes and playing about with the saturation, hue and contrast of the flashbacks to give them a more sad/ depressing look. It will help set the mood of the video therefore, the audience could understand the theme and the genre easily. Like I've mentioned before, the colours black and white for me represents:
Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery. Black is a mysterious colour associated with fear and the unknown (black holes). It usually has a negative connotation (blacklist, black humour, 'black death'). Black denotes strength and authority; it is considered to be a very formal, elegant, and prestigious colour (black tie, black Mercedes). In heraldry, black is the symbol of grief. Black gives the feeling of perspective and depth, but a black background diminishes readability.
White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and
virginity. It is considered to be the colour of perfection. White means safety,
purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive
connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry, white
depicts faith and purity. In advertising, white is associated with
coolness and cleanliness because it's the colour of snow. You can use white to
suggest simplicity in high-tech products. White is an appropriate colour for
charitable organizations; angels are usually imagined wearing white clothes.
White is associated with hospitals, doctors, and sterility, so you can use
white to suggest safety when promoting medical products.

7. Editing - Day 4
We asked Amy and Vanessa to give us feedback on our first draft and they suggested that we should add more lip syncs and remove all the unneeded scenes such as the remote control scene.
Nana and I also tried to change the cutaways according to the songs beat. So every time you heard the next beat, the cutaway would match along with it, therefore the video would look more smooth and professional.

7. Editing - Day 3
Today Nana and I experimented with the slow motion effect for the flashback scenes and we were disappointed with the fact that it didn't really work. The scenes looked more jumpy than smooth which we were really upset about because if it did work, it would've had a more dramatic effect throughout the video. Especially in the moment where Nana see's the text messages. However, it worked really well with the suicidal scenes and the argument scenes. It looked realistic and professional. We reduced the jumpiness of the effect which really did help.

7. Editing - Day 2
We have finished our rough draft of the video today and next lesson we will try to properly edit the video with the correct edits such as editing the scenes into slow motion and adding the black and white effect.

7. Editing - Day 1
Today, Nana and I are starting to roughly edit the video together and we got nearly half of it done. We managed to plan out the scenes that would go beside each other. Also, we discussed how we would portray the flashbacks and if we would need to use any filter on them. As we proceed with the video, we will put deeper thoughts onto how we will illustrate those scenes. We also used the storyboard to plan out our scenes which was very useful for us.

6. Shooting the video - Day 2
GOOD NEWS! We got all of our recording done yesterday and we have already started to edit our video! However, our male actor was unreliable so we managed to take the whole video without him, which came out better than we thought it would have. Instead, the main focus was only on both Nana and Imelda's love. To make it clear that she was cheating on him, we recorded scenes of where she was texting someone else whilst Nana wasn't in the frame. The shooting was really fun and I enjoyed spending a day recording with my friends.
Proof that I was there for the shooting. I recorded the whole thing :)
Weather
The weather for the recording was great we managed to get everything done. The shooting in the park was really nice, I think the lighting was perfect. There was no rain so we didn't need to cancel our shoot outside. When we recorded inside, the camera lighting wasn't enough so we definitely needed light from the outside and from the electrical light. The bathroom scene was also very successful, nothing went wrong. We made sure all the wires were away from the areas that contained water. Overall, everything went great, I cant wait until we start to edit the video together!

Bad news...
Our male actor said he couldn't make it to tomorrows recording session, so we are going to have to improvise and record without him, as the only day we can shoot is tomorrow. We will only have 2 actors and that will be Nana and a girl called Imelda. We hope everything goes as planned. We will first start with the park scenes and the flashbacks, then we will move onto the living room and bathroom scenes in Nana's house. I also heard that he has a really nice, large balcony, which will definitely be useful when we're shooting.
Team Meetings - 5
We couldn't record anything during the half term as our actors were very unreliable. But, we are planning to meet up tomorrow at 12pm. Depending if our actors show up, we have made a second plan which is to do a video with only Nana starring in it, so the video will be performance based rather than a narrative base like we originally planned to do and Nana will be the only actor in the video.
One of the Case studies I did over the summer holiday (Justin Bieber - Somebody To Love feat. Usher) would be great use for us because that video was all performance based. We could try and get some students from the performing arts block to do simple dance moves in the background whilst Nana lip syncs looking at the camera. This of course is just a back up plan incase our main idea doesn't work out.
